Spot Treatment
Hormonal acne, pimples, breakouts...a rose by any other name would be just as much a pain in the ass. Now that I've made Willy Shakespeare roll in his grave, let's talk spots. At any age, hormones can play a huge part in breakouts (not everything about going natural is cute, mmmk?). They can be minor inconveniences to brutal confidence busters. I can't tell you how many bios from the founders of natural skincare lines that point directly to the fact that they had severe acne as the reason they went natural. Almost all stories are the same - they give up, stop using all the store bought chemical stuff, pack it in and expect to die alone eaten by 25 cats. Yet, without fail, every one of them within a week or two starts to see marked improvements from just using water, castile soap, maybe a natural homemade rinse and soon enough they have created a beautiful line of natural products that work better than your wildest dreams.
The point here: there is hope..and lots of it!
Spot treatments to try:
Toner - I recommend Herbivore's Jasmine Green Tea Balancing toner or Siam Seas Yen Heal & Hydrate toner. Toners balance the pH of your skin which is quite delicate and can be offset by products, stress, or the air in your environment. I'm kind of obsessed with toner. Toner will even out your skin's pH, hydrate, and protect. Both of these have thoughtful ingredients that will both prevent and heal spots.
Spot Treatment - Province Apothecary's Spot Treatment contains ingredients chock-a-block full of spot fighting natural remedies. A spot treatment is also a really easy one to DIY: mix 7 drops of tea tree oil with 1 teaspoon of fractionated coconut oil and dab on spots. The reason it's important to mix with the fractionated coconut oil is because tea tree oil (or any essential oil) is quite concentrated - you don't need or want the full strength directly on your skin.
Mask - I used to suffer from those really painful hormonal spots. They are those under the skin ones that hurt like HELL if you accidentally touch it. Awhile back, I was getting a facial and lamenting to the esthetician about this problem - she recommended African Botanics Mineral Cleansing Mask and I swear to you I have not had one of those painful spots since. It's targeted specifically at acne or congested skin. This mask has a permanent spot in my collection - I absolutely love it.
(Remember to err on the side of caution and always spot test a small patch of skin when trying something new!)
